KTM enthusiasts it’s time to rejoice as the new 390 Duke has been unveiled at the 2016 EICMA motorcycle sh ow. The 2017 KTM 390 Duke has to be among the most anticipated motorcycles of 2016. So what’s new in the 2017 390 Duke? Well for starters there’s the all-new design which has been based on the Super Duke. The LED twin-split headlight, sharper looking tank, split seats and petite tail section makes the new 390 Duke even more menacing looking. Other goodies on the motorcycle includes ride-by-wire throttle, full TFT dash, and an optional MY RIDE multimedia interface. The optional system allows the rider to link his smartphone with the motorcycle and all the details get displayed on the TFT screen and you can toggle through the details via the menu switch on the handlebar.
The updates on the new 390 Duke haven’t been limited to the cosmetic front. The bike gets powered by the same 373.2cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine as seen on its predecessor. But the motor is now Euro 4 emission norm compliant and develops 44PS which is identical to the older mill. Also the bike sports conventional side-mounted muffler as opposed to the underbelly unit as seen on its predecessor.
The steel fuel tanks capacity has been increased to 13.4 litre, a bump of 2.4 litre in volume. The frame of the 2017 KTM 390 Duke is also new to improve the handling performance of the bike which now weighs 149kg (a massive 10kg more than the older bike). The steering rake angle has been increased to 66 ° while the wheelbase has been reduced by 10mm to 1,357mm. Cycle parts have also been updated as it sports new WP sourced USD forks that employs open-cartridge technology and suspension travel is now 142mm as opposed to 150mm. Ground clearance has been hiked by 15mm which now stands at 185mm.
The new KTM 390 Duke features larger 320mm dia front disc (300mm dia on the older model) brake sourced from Bybre while dual-channel ABS has been carried forward. The clutch and brake lever are now adjustable on the new motorcycle. Saddle height though has increased to 830mm from 800mm. We expect the 2017 KTM 390 Duke to make its entry in the Indian market by first half of 2017 while demanding a premium of around Rs 20 to 30,000 over the current model.
