Bookings for the 2016 Hyundai Elantra that is going to launch in September has started in India. Upon contacting dealers, we came to know that the booking amount for the Elantra is going to be somewhere around Rs 25,000. This upcoming car is going to be manufactured at Hyundai's plant in Chennai.
The Elantra that is going to make its way to India will be outfitted with a 2.0litre MPI, four-cylinder petrol engine which is capable of producing 149PS or power. On the other hand, the diesel unit will be a 1.6litre affair producing 136PS of power. Both engines will be available with a choice of sixspeed manual or automatic transmissions.
The car will be loaded with a lot of features such as a 7inch touchscreen infotainment system along with satellite navigation, cruise control, rainsensing wipers, auto climate control, and push start/stop button. Speaking about the safety features, the Elantra will be equipped with a new driver’s knee airbag, antilock braking system (ABS), electronic stability control (ESC), tyre pressure monitoring system, vehicle stability management (VSM) and traction control, adaptive lighting and adaptive cruise control.
On the exterior, the new Elantra will sport a hexagonal grille with chrome inserts, sweptback headlamps, tweaked bumper with integrated daytime running lights (DRL), an elongated roofline, sweeping window silhouette, LED door handles, and 16inch diamondcut alloy wheels.
Loaded with all the aforementioned new features, the 2016 Elantra is expected to be priced somewhere between Rs 13 lakh and 18 lakh, and will compete against rivals like the Toyota Corolla Altis, Chevrolet Cruze, Skoda Octavia, and Volkswagen Jetta.
