At the 2016 INTERMOT motorcycle show in Germany, Suzuki surprised everyone as it unveiled the new GSX-R 125. The new 125cc motorcycle is a full-faired motorcycle option from Suzuki for the emerging Asian markets and the European two-wheeler space. The Suzuki Gixxer has achieved tremendous success in the Indian market and the GSX-R 125 seems to be a move by the Japanese two-wheeler giant to mirror the same in other countries. Suzuki is marketing the GSX-R 125 as a revolution in the lightweight class of motorcycles. The styling of the new motorcycle is based on the new GSX-R 1000 motorcycle that was also unveiled alongside it. The sporty lines and sharp details of the motorcycle will appeal to the youngsters especially the LED headlight. The bike features an all-digital instrument cluster similar to the Gixxer and gets LED tail lamps and convention exhaust muffler.
An interesting feature on the new Suzuki GSX-R 125 is keyless entry and the “answer-back function” which helps the rider in locating the bike as the indicators start flashing when he presses the button the key. Suzuki hasn’t revealed power figures for the single-cylinder DOHC motor yet but have rather said that the bike is the lightest in its segment.
The bike features petal disc brake at front and also gets ABS. The new Suzuki GSX-R 125 will rival the likes of the KTM RC 125 and the Yamaha YZF-R125 in the European market. Given the fact that we already have the Suzuki Gixxer-SF in India, we don’t think the new GSX-R 125 is coming to India. But we do hope a 250cc, single-cylinder based on it comes to our two-wheeler market as demand for performance bikes are increasing.
