The Hyundai Grand i10 has been one of the most successful cars by the Korean manufacturer. Since its launch in 2013 the little hatchback sold over 5.5 lakh units and garnered a loyal customer base in its segment. Four years on, it has received a much-needed facelift. Also, with the launch of the new Maruti Suzuki Ignis, Hyundai had to ensure that the changes were more than just skin deep.  We take a variant by variant look at what has been upgraded and which features haven’t made the cut.

Exterior: Front

The changes at the front include a new hexagonal cascading grille with a smaller upper grille highlighted by a redesigned chrome bar and new fog lamps with LED DRLs. Also noticeable is the new 8-spoke diamond-cut alloy wheel design.

Exterior: Rear

The biggest design change can be observed on the dashboard of the 2017 Grand i10. The top-of-the-line Sportz (O) and Asta variants are now offered with a well-integrated 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, while the Sportz variant is offered with a smaller 5.0-inch unit. The Asta variant is also offered with a previously unavailable fully automatic climate control system.

Dimensions

The 2017 Hyundai Grand i10 has the same dimensions as the model it replaces. The Grand i10 continues to be 3,765mm long, 1,660mm wide, 1,520mm tall and has a wheelbase length of 2,425mm.

Engines and Transmissions

The petrol-powered Grand i10 continues to use the same engine-transmission combo as the previous model: A 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder, naturally aspirated unit developing 83PS of maximum power at 6,000rpm and 114Nm of peak torque at 4,000rpm. The engine can be paired with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed automatic.

The 1.1-litre, 3-cylinder, turbocharged diesel, on the other hand, has been replaced by a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged unit. This develops 75PS of maximum power at 4,000rpm (up from the previous 71PS @ 4,000rpm) and 190Nm of peak torque at 1,750-2,250rpm (up from 160NM @ 1,500-2,750rpm). The transmission remains the same - a 5-speed manual. Hyundai has not yet announced if or when the diesel motor will be paired to an automatic transmission.

The new Hyundai Grand i10 facelift is closely matched with the Maruti Suzuki Ignis and even undercuts the Ignis with certain variants. Though the Ignis justifies its premium price with safety features like dual airbags, ABS, EBD and ISOFIX mounts as standard across its range, most safety features in the Grand i10 are limited to the top-end variants only. You do, however, get driver-side airbag as standard. Though, the competitive pricing should work in the Grand i10’s favour.
