The new-gen Hyundai Verna, which was showcased at the Chengdu Motor Show last month, has now been launched in China. It will be a part of Hyundai’s ‘two-new-products-for-India-every-year’ strategy for next year and will replace the current-gen Verna on offer.

In China, the new Verna is available with two petrol engine options, both of which have been carried forward from its predecessor. While the smaller 1.4-litre mill is tuned to churn out 101PS of power, the bigger 1.6-litre motor is configured to produce a more healthy 124PS of power. Both engines are being offered with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed auto box.

By the time it reaches Indian shores next year, Hyundai will also offer two diesel motors in addition the petrol motors mentioned above. The smaller, currently-on-offer 1.4-litre diesel engine is tuned to produce 90PS of power and 220Nm of torque. The bigger 1.6-litre diesel motor, with 128PS of power and 260Nm of torque, makes the Verna the most power diesel-powered sedan in its category in India. Unlike the current-gen Verna, which gets an option of a four-speed auto box both with the petrol and diesel engines, the new model will get an optional six-speed automatic transmission across its variant range. If you don’t like the two-pedal setup, the new Verna will also be available with a six-speed manual gearbox.

In terms of dimensions, the new-gen Verna is 5mm longer, 28mm wider and 15mm taller than the car it will replace in India. The new model carries Hyundai’s Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language and comes across as a definite head-tuner. Fully-loaded variants of the new Verna get features like diamond-cut alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, automatic climate control, electric sunroof, touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and heated seats.

In China, the next-gen Verna is price between Rs 7.19 Lakh for the least expensive variant and Rs 10.45 lakh for the top-end spec. Once it goes on sale in India next year, we expect the new Verna to carry a price tag slightly above the outgoing model.
