Amidst much fanfare and love from the motorcycling brotherhood, Indian Scout Bobber has been officially launched at the 2017 India Bike Week in Goa. Bookings for the bike have already been open for a token amount of Rs 50,000. The bike has been launched at a price of Rs 12.99 lakh (ex-showroom India) and will compete against the Moto Guzzi V9 Bobber and the Triumph Bonneville Bobber. Indian is offering accessories of worth Rs 1 lakh if you book your Bobber between today and tomorrow.
The Indian Scout Bobber was unveiled globally back in July and is the first Bobber from the American brand since its revival with Polaris. The bike looks intimidating with the blacked out headlight, frame cover, aluminum wheels and split exhaust. The low-rise handlebars and redesigned single saddle make for an aggressive riding posture. The chopped front fender and the curvy rear chopped mudguard compliment the chunky tyres (130/90 at the front and 150/80 at the rear).
While the Bobber gets the same 12.5-litre fuel tank as the Indian Scout, the badge is redesigned to be more minimalistic and bold. A single analogue pod with a tiny digital screen is mounted on top of the fuel tank. While the speedometer is analogue, the tachometer, odometer and trip meter are also displayed on the screen, along with the engine temperature and fuel warning light inside the cluster. A round halogen headlamp and bar-end mirrors complete the look of the bike.
The bike is powered by the same 1133cc liquid-cooled V-twin engine that powers its sibling, the Indian Scout. Power figures are unchanged too and stand at 95.3PS of power and 97Nm of maximum torque @ 5600rpm. Transmission is handled by a 6-speed gearbox and the bike uses a belt drive to drive the rear wheel.
The bike gets 120mm telescopic forks and 50mm dual shock absorbers at the rear. 298mm disc brakes sit on both ends of the bike with dual piston callipers at the front and a single piston at the back. However, it doesn’t get ABS. The 16-inch wheels are wrapped in knobby tyres.
There are some changes in the dimensions too. The foot pegs, for instance, are pushed back by 38mm compared to the Bobber. The rear suspension is also set lower resulting in a seat height of 649mm, 6mm lower than that of the Scout. Like most Bobbers, the Scout Bobber also offers low ground clearance at 123mm, while the Scout offers 135mm.
