Mercedes-Benz had unveiled the 2017 edition of the E-Class earlier this year at the Detroit Auto Show. Now, the guys at AMG have revealed the dark side of the E-Class with its AMG version. The car will make its official debut in mid-November at the upcoming Los Angeles Motor Show. The car comes with a number of developments that redefine the ‘super saloon’.
Starting from the front, the stance of the car has been beefed up with prominent muscular lines, while the wheel arches are broader to accommodate the wide track. The radiator grille has been updated, wherein the split single slat has been shifted and now, sits slightly lower, while the mesh has been replaced with black vertical struts. The AMG treatment continues to the sides with the notable placement of the ‘V8 BITURBO 4MATIC+’ badging on the front fender. The new E63 stands on 10-spoke, 19-inch alloy wheels while the E63 S sports 20-inch, twin 5-spoke alloys. At the back, the muscular look of the car is completed with a lip spoiler and diffuser-like inserts in the rear apron. The car features two twin-exhaust units that sit on either side of the diffuser.
The interiors are updated as well which include a nappa leather covering for the instrument panel and beltlines. The sports steering wheel gets crystal grey marking at the centre top and contrasting topstitching. The colour scheme continues to the seats with crystal grey coloured seat piping and seat belts.
Under the hood, the E63 gets an updated 4.0-litre V8 biturbo motor. The turbos are located between the cylinder banks, which helps in immediate response and lower exhaust gas emissions. In the E63 4MATIC+, the engine has been tuned to produce 570PS of power and 750Nm of peak torque. And if that was still less, the ‘S’ variant registers a max power output of 612PS, with a staggering peak torque of 850Nm. For these insane performance figures, both the variant are equipped with the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT, nine-speed sports transmission that has been specially tuned to meet the performance rating. The new E63 now comes with the all-wheel-drive system as a standard feature thus allowing the power to be used more effectively. The car comes with the option of ‘Drift Mode’ which when activated transmits all the power produced by the V8 only to the rear wheels.
The 2017 Mercedes-AMG E63 and E63 S will go on sale in the international market by January 2017 with deliveries starting from March 2017. Expect, the super saloon to reach Indian shores only by late-2017.
