Nissan India has launched the 2017 model year Sunny in India. The car is one of the most successful nameplates from the Japanese carmaker in India. The 2017 model year car has been equipped with some new features but will be sold without any price increase. The prices start from Rs 7.91 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

You can now buy the Sunny in an all-new Sandstone Brown paint. Nissan has also added chrome door handles to make the car look more premium. On the inside, owners can opt for the optional all-black interior with fabric seats. As far as safety features are concerned, the Sunny offers ABS, EBD and brake assist with a driver airbag on all variants up to XV D trim. In XV D trim, dual front airbags are offered, with driver, passenger and side airbags offered in the top-of-the-line XV S trim. Among other features is a 2-DIN infotainment unit with Bluetooth and AUX In, keyless entry with push button start/stop and rear parking camera with sensors.

The car comes with a choice of a petrol and a diesel engine. In the petrol motor is a four-cylinder HR15 unit which displaces 1.5 litres and makes 99PS of max power and 134Nm of peak torque. The diesel motor is a K9K dCi four-cylinder engine that also displaces 1.5 litres and makes 86PS of max power and 200Nm of peak torque. The Sunny is available with either a five-speed manual (both petrol and diesel) or a CVT (petrol only) transmission.

As to how it stacks against its rivals, at 4,455mm, only the Ciaz (4,490mm) is longer than the Sunny. In terms of height, the Sunny is the tallest in its segment at 1,515mm. In terms of wheelbase, it is second only to the Ciaz at 2,600mm as against Maruti Suzuki car's 2,650mm. All in all, it comes with decent levels of equipment and has frugal four-cylinder motors especially the diesel. It also offers more legroom and headroom than almost all rivals and does not come at a premium either. Now, if only Nissan could offer it with a better infotainment system than the current 2-DIN it has in the car, perhaps that would make it more competitive against its chief rival, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz
