The updated version of the Royal Enfield Continental GT has been spied testing in Europe. The cafe racer, in its 2017 avatar, is expected to feature several mechanical tweaks to the motor in order to conform to the Euro-4 emission norms. The spied images of the bike suggest that it will feature a dual-channel ABS unit, thanks to the ABS rings, visible on the brake discs.
The spied motorcycle looks exactly the same as the current bike, however, the Euro4 upgrade will certainly add more value to the bike. The upgrades are said to include changes to the exhaust unit with a revamped silencer to trap more pollutants.
Speaking of the braking system, the front and rear discs appear to be of the same diameter as the ones present on the current bike. Which means that the braking performance will remain more or less the same, except for the ABS function, of course.
The updates, spied on the bike, are European market-oriented, but we cannot deny the fact that a few may make their way to India, such as the ABS unit. The Euro-spec bike is expected to get a daytime running LED lamp, which may also be made available in the country.
We are quite familiar that the Continental GT isn’t one of the successful RE bikes available in India, thanks to the more performance-oriented motorcycle options available at its price such as the KTM Duke 390. However, an update like this is sure to bump up its image in front of the competition as only a few bikes offer ABS.
Feature wise, the current Continental GT gets Brembo brakes with a 300mm disc up front and a 240mm at the rear. It also boasts Pirelli Sport Demon tyres to match up with the brake bite. A twin-pod instrument cluster, clip on handlebars, retro styling bits like the exhaust pipe, headlamp units, fuel tank, seat and tail cowl set it apart from other bikes. Powered by a fuel-injected, 535cc, single-cylinder motor, the Continental is the fastest RE available on sale with 29.1PS of power and 44Nm of torque.
