Triumph India has sent a press release to block our dates hinting at the fact that it will launch the new Street Triple in India on June 12. We had already broken the news that dealers have started accepting bookings for the new Street Triple last month. It is expected that Triumph will only launch the base 2017 Street Triple S in India on June 12. Earlier this year we were in Barcelona to ride the Triumph Street Triple RS and returned mighty impressed. During an interaction with company officials, it was hinted that the Street Triple R and Street Triple RS will be launched in India by late 2017 in phases.

The Triumph Street Triple is among the most important motorcycles for the British bikemaker with over 50,000 units being sold and recently received a complete overhaul after being in production for close to a decade. In terms of design the new motorcycle looks similar to its predecessor but gets sharper lines. Triumph has also focussed on improving the fit and finish of the motorcycle. While the R and RS variants feature all-digital instrument consoles, the base version is equipped with a semi-digital unit with an analogue tachometer.

The biggest talking point is the new Euro-4 emission norm compliant, 765cc, triple-cylinder engine that delivers 6.6% more peak power than the previous generation of 113PS at 11,250rpm and delivers a 7.3% increased peak torque of 73Nm at 9,100rpm. The India-spec Triumph Street Triple produced 79PS as opposed to the 106PS on the international-sec bike. That won’t be the case with the 2017 Street Triple S as Triumph plans to get the full-power version to India. The new motorcycle also features ride-by-wire throttle, two ride modes (road, rain) and traction control.

The new motorcycle features Showa upside-down 41mm separate function front forks with 110mm travel and a preload-adjustable monoshock rear suspension unit. The bike also sports a new gullwing swingarm that has been designed to improve the handling dynamics further while saddle height is low at 810mm. Braking is done via Nissin 2-piston sliding calipers at the front and a Brembo single-piston sliding caliper at the back. Talking about price, we expect the new Triumph Street triple S to be priced around Rs 8.5 lakh to Rs 9 lakh (ex-showroom).
