Yamaha has been very tight-lipped about its upcoming 125cc scooter. However, according to reports, the company is gearing up to introduce the Yamaha Nozza Grande, which was spotted testing last year, at the 2018 Auto Expo. If launched, the Nozza Grande will mark the company's official entry into the 125cc scooter segment in India. It is expected to carry a price tag of Rs 60,000 - 65,000 (ex-showroom).
The Yamaha Nozza Grande’s overall styling can be labelled as retro and trendy, and we must say it’s a visually appealing scooter. An interesting feature is the apron-mounted fuel filler cap as the fuel tank is positioned below the floorboard. This has resulted in a massive LED-illuminated underseat storage space of 27 litres, which should easily fit a full face helmet. Along with it, there is also a keyhole-mounted fuel cap and underseat access buttons, adding to the convenience factor. The speedometer here is a semi-digital unit.
The scooter is powered by a fuel-injected 124cc, single-cylinder, SOHC engine. It produces 8.2PS of power at 6500rpm and 9.7Nm of torque at 5000rpm. However, the Indian version might ditch the fuel-injection system for a carburettor to keep costs in check.
Suspension duties are handled by telescopic forks at the front and a single rear hydraulic shock absorber, while braking is taken care of by a front disc brake and a rear drum. The Vietnamese variant of this scooter comes with a seat height of 790mm, which is a bit high for average Indian riders. However, Yamaha might reduce it for the India-bound Nozza Grande. The scooter comes equipped with 12-inch cast alloy wheels. Fuel capacity stands at 4.4 litres and the bike weighs just 99kg, making it among the lightest 125cc scooters to go on sale in India.
As for the competition, the Yamaha Nozza Grande will rival the Honda Grazia, Honda Activa 125, Suzuki Access 125 and the upcoming TVS Graphite.
