Jaguar has taken the wraps off the 2018 F-Type range with the addition of an entry-level four-cylinder engine. This unit is a turbocharged 2.0-litre Ingenium petrol motor that puts out 296PS of maximum power and 400Nm of peak torque. This engine comes mated to the same 8-speed automatic transmission found in the V6 models.
The new four-cylinder variant can do the 0-100kmph sprint in just 5.4 seconds, versus the 5.1 seconds of the RWD automatic V6 model. The top-speed is 249kmph, compared to the V6’s 259 kmph. Jaguar says the inline-four is also around 16 percent more fuel-efficient. The similar performance figures to the V6 model can be contributed to a lighter kerb weight (52kg) and the peak torque which is now available from just 1500rpm. Jaguar says having less weight up front will also result in better handling. The entry-level variants come standard with new, lightweight 18-inch wheels fitted with 245/45/R18 tires at the front and 275/40/R18 at the rear. However, 19 and 20-inch wheels would be offered as options.
The entry-level variant is priced at just $59,990 (Rs 38.56 lakh, excluding duties) and joins its siblings with an updated design, improved features and a more ergonomic cabin. In addition to new 4-cylinder variants, the 2018 F-Type will still be offered with a number of supercharged V6 options and even the 321kmph, all-wheel drive 575PS V8-powered F-Type SVR. The total number of the F-type derivatives has now gone up to 24 with the upcoming 2018 range.
On the outside, the 2018 iteration gets full-LED headlamps as standard now. The DRLs now double up as front indicators and in place of its predecessor’s double ‘shark gill’ air intakes, the new F-TYPE features a single aperture lozenge mesh design. At the rear, you get darker tail-lamps now. On the inside, the F-Type gets lightweight slimline seats, which use pressure die-cast frames to help save more than 7.7 kilograms. The seats also get extra backrest and cushioning with the new model. The SVR model’s Siena Tan leather seats will be offered as an option across the range, while controls like engine start button and the gearshift paddles are satin chrome-finished now. You can also opt for carbon-fibre central console now.
Jaguar InControl Touch Pro infotainment system is now standard across the F-Type line-up. A sportier R-Dynamic trim for the F-Type V6 and a special edition F-Type 400 Sport model will be made available as well. The new F-Type range will go on sale later this year in the USA. We expect Jaguar to bring the updated range to India by mid 2018.
