2018 Mahindra XUV500 Facelift Spotted Testing

After launching the updated Scorpio last month, it seems like Mahindra is planning to launch the updated XUV500 in India. It will be the second update that Mahindra’s flagship SUV will receive after it was first updated in 2015.

Recently, the updated XUV500 was spotted testing in India. And from the spy shots, it is safe to say that the new SUV looks quite similar to the existing version. At the front, it gets a new grill though, but that again is flanked by same old headlamps. The front bumper has also been redesigned and it now houses a refreshed air dam along with new fog lamp housing.

Prior to this, another spy shot revealed the rear of the SUV which again looks almost identical to the current version. However, the final version is expected to get some subtle design changes. On the inside, the updated XUV500 is likely get more premium interiors. That said, the equipment offered is expected to remain the same.

Under the bonnet, the updated XUV500 is likely to carry forward the same powertrain with a 2.2-litre diesel and a 2.2-litre petrol engine. However, Mahindra may uprate the diesel engine to produce 170PS of power and 400Nm of torque (currently, it produces 140PS and 330Nm). It should continue to come with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission. The 2.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which was launched recently, produces 140PS of power and 320Nm of torque. It is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Mahindra is expected to launch the updated XUV500 in the first half of next year and may use the 2018 Auto Expo which is scheduled for February 2018. When launched, the new XUV500 will continue to compete against SUVs like the Hyundai Creta, Jeep Compass and the Tata Hexa.
