Maruti Suzuki wants you and me to believe the new Ertiga is a more polished product. What better way of signalling intent, no?

If you were planning on running to the closest Maruti Suzuki dealer with a cheque for the new Ertiga, WAIT! Run to the Nexa showroom instead, because that’s where you’ll find the new avatar of the MPV once it’s launched. We got in touch with multiple dealers across the country, who confirmed the same. The dealers are also hinting at a tentative Diwali season launch.

Does this move come as a surprise? If you ask us, not really. Right from the moment the new Ertiga broke cover in Indonesia, it was clear. The product is a clear step up from what it used to be, be it in terms of design, engine options or even the tech on offer. And Maruti Suzuki wants to make sure we believe them when they say the Ertiga is now a whole lot more premium. The swanky Nexa showrooms are definitely one of the easiest ways to drive that point home.

The 2018 Ertiga will be the first “all-new” launch for Maruti (and Nexa) in 2018, that will follow the substantially updated Ciaz which will be launched in August. The sedan should hit showrooms by the end of August or early September, which leaves enough room for Maruti Suzuki to slot in another product launch before the year ends.

There are strong rumours of the current Ertiga being rebranded as the “Ertiga Tour”, and being sold through regular Maruti Suzuki Arena dealerships for the fleet market. Maruti Suzuki now sells the old Swift Dzire as the Dzire Tour S in a stripped-down barebones variant. Considering how everyone wants an Uber XL these days, there’s a strong possibility Maruti will introduce the fleet version of the MPV.

For now, it’s fingers crossed for the 2018 Eritga. We know it’s going to share the new K15B 1.5-litre petrol motor with the Ciaz, and feature mild-hybrid tech as well. There’s also confirmation that the new Ertiga will be offered in a petrol-automatic version (although it isn’t clear if Maruti will stick to their 4-speed AT or use a CVT). Finally, there’s a possibility of an all new 1.5-litre diesel engine as well. All of this do point towards the Ertiga becoming a whole lot more mature, and more plush as a product. Does this mean we’re looking at premium pricing too? Let’s hope not.
