The next-gen A-Class will be based on an all-new MFA 2 platform.

Mercedes-Benz India launched its premium hatchback, the A-Class in India back in 2013. The next generation of the same has now been spotted testing for the first time.

It will be based on Mercedes’ new MFA 2 platform which will most likely be lighter than the current MFA platform. This new platform is a reworked version of the MFA platform which underpins the B-Class, CLA and the GLA. The spied test mule of the next-gen A-Class is heavily camouflaged, but one can at least make out that the car will come with a number of cosmetic changes.

The spied next-gen A-Class will most likely get new headlamps and tail lamps and will also have added tech like adaptive cruise control and an updated music system.

Mechanically, the car is expected to remain unchanged. The diesel variants will be powered by a 2.2-litre diesel engine which has been tuned to deliver 138PS of power whereas the petrol variants will use a 1.6-litre petrol engine which produces 123PS of power, similar to the current generation A-Class.

Mercedes will most likely showcase the 2018 A-Class at next year’s Frankfurt Motor Show. We can expect the same to hit Indian shores by the end of 2018.
