The C-Class facelift will sport new engines and possibly borrow some bit of tech from the flagship S-Class

We had reported earlier that the updated Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedan will be arriving in India by October this year. But now, Mercedes has officially announced that it will be launching the updated C-Class a month earlier, on 20th September 2018.

The C-Class facelift will feature minor changes to the front fascia and a tweaked rear section with updated tail lamps. Mercedes could also offer LED lighting as an optional extra or as standard on the top of the line variants.

The updated cabin will feature a 12.3-inch full digital information display and will come with an updated infotainment system as well.

While the aesthetic changes will be minimal, the C-Class will get a major update in terms of mechanicals. The current 2.1-litre diesel will give way to the 2.0-litre 4-pot diesel that already does duty on the new E-Class. Apart from being lighter the new diesel will produce 194PS of max power, which is 24PS higher than the current car. It is claimed to more fuel efficient and will be BSVI-compliant as well.

The petrol on the other hand will likely be powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged motor which will make 184PS of max power, and will come with 14PS extra boost via the EQ Boost system. All engines will be mated to a 9-speed GTronic transmission.

While the C-Class overseas comes with S-Class-level safety features like active steering assist, active distance control and semi-autonomous capability, we will likely have to make do with adaptive cruise control only.

Prices can be expected to be higher than the current model, but the powertrain updates could make the C-Class relevant again in the midst of competition from the likes of the BMW 3-series, Audi A4 and the Jaguar XE.
