2019 Indian Chief, Springfield And Roadmaster Updated

Indian Motorcycle has been updating its lineup for the coming year. After the Scout family, it is now the Indian Chief, Springfield and Roadmaster’s turn for a refresh. The three cruiser lineups now get updated with a few interesting features like riding modes, rear-cylinder deactivation system and more.

As mentioned above, the motorcycles now come with three different riding modes - Tour, Standard and Sport. Each mode offers a unique and distinct throttle response. For example, the Tour mode offers a more relaxed throttle response, while the Standard mode is a bit more responsive and peppy, and hence, more suitable for riding in the city.

However, the biggest update comes in the form of a new 'rear-cylinder deactivation' system. As the name suggests, the system cuts off the rear cylinder in situations where - the bike is idling, the ambient temperature is more than 15 degree Celsius or if the engine has reached its operating temperature. It can then be re-activated by just a twist of the throttle by the rider. Indian says, the aim behind this system was to reduce heat produced by the engine and improve rider comfort. From personal experience, this move is certainly welcome.

In addition to this, the three motorcycles also come with some other minor changes. For instance, the Roadmaster now gets a redesigned lower fairing for better airflow. There’s also a new dynamic equaliser on the audio system which adjusts itself, depending upon the conditions.

Considering all of its product make their way to India, we expect Indian Motorcycle to update its lineup here as well. Currently, the Indian Chief Classic retails for Rs 21.30 lakh, while the Springfield and Roadmaster are priced at Rs 33.50 lakh and Rs 39 lakh respectively (all prices, ex-showroom pan-India). With the addition of all these features, a marginal price hike is certainly expected.
