Jeep has released the first set of official images of the 2019 Cherokee a month ahead of its official debut. The manufacturer hasn’t really revealed much about the new SUV except for saying that “the most capable mid-size sport-utility vehicle (SUV) boasts a new, authentic and more premium design, along with even more fuel-efficient powertrain options.”
Going by the pictures, the most noticeable change on the updated Cherokee is the new single-piece headlight, which are a lot better to look at than the split units seen in the earlier version. The front bumper has been redesigned to give the SUV a more rounded look than before. Hardly anything has changed on the side of the car though. It continues to get square wheel arches with black body cladding that also run across the lower half of the doors. At the rear, the older tail lamps have made way for larger LED units. The tailgate has been redesigned to accommodate the number plate housing that was earlier placed on the bumper. The rear bumper has been refreshed as well and it now gets a dual tone finish with chrome inserts along with new exhaust pipe outlets that lend the SUV a more rugged look.
On the inside, it isn’t an easy task to spot what’s changed. From the single interior shot that Jeep released, the new Cherokee looks identical to the previous version. The dashboard remains same and continues to get a dual tone finish. Central console layout is also same with infotainment system sitting at the top and flanked by the AC. The climate control unit is placed below it.
Will It Come To India?
As you may know, Jeep currently does not offer the Cherokee in India. However, we believe it makes great sense for the manufacturer to introduce it here as it will fill the huge price gap between the Compass and the Wrangler Unlimited, which are priced at Rs 15.16 lakh and Rs 67 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), respectively. Within Jeep’s product portfolio, the Cherokee will be the de facto choice for those who are looking for a luxurious experience, something which the Compass fails to offer as it misses out on various essential and luxurious features like auto-dimming IRVM, cruise control, power adjustable driver seat, powered tailgate and a sunroof. If launched, the Cherokee is likely to be priced between Rs 35 lakh and Rs 40 lakh and will go up against premium entry-level SUVs like the BMW X1, Audi Q3 and the Mercedes-Benz GLA.
Stay tuned for further updates on the new Cherokee as we expect to see more of the new SUV in the run-up to its official unveil next month.
