The upcoming 2019 Maruti Wagon R, which is set to launch on January 23, has already created quite a buzz. Bookings are already underway and deliveries of the new-gen tallboy are expected to begin immediately after launch. As the bookings for the new Wagon R commence, the kei car has also made its debut on Maruti Suzuki’s Arena website where prospective customers can catch a glimpse of its cabin.

Based on these images, we can gather that the cabin of the Wagon R will be more premium than the outgoing model and feature a beige-black dual-tone theme. The dashboard is rather vertically stacked and the black and beige treatment looks well balanced. It features the Wagon R’s traditional dual glovebox while a new touchscreen infotainment system, which is is flanked by two vertical AC vents with silver surrounds, takes centre stage. In all likelihood, the touchscreen system will not come with Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. Both features are not visible in the images and Maruti has made no mention of the feature in the press release issued earlier in the day.

The steering wheel is in tune with Maruti’s modern cars and comes with steering-mounted controls for the infotainment system and Bluetooth telephony. The instrument cluster, on the other hand, looks rather sporty and functional. The speedometer gets prominence while the small circular tachometer houses a digital multi-info (MID) display. There will be no climate control on offer as the cabin displayed in the images likely belongs to the top Zxi variant and it features a manual AC unit. It also gets a 12V charging socket. Although a USB port is not visible in the pictures, it’s quite likely that it’s hidden behind the flap for the 12V socket, like in the old Ertiga.

The Wagon R will be launched with two engine options - a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder unit and the 1.2-litre four-pot engine that powers the Ignis and Swift. The 1.0-litre motor will be available with the Lxi and Vxi variants only while the 1.2-litre engine will be offered with the Vxi and Zxi variants. Also, there will be no CNG variant at launch. However, we expect Maruti too add one to the portfolio later on. When launched, it will rival the new Hyundai Santro, Tata Tiago and the Datsun GO
