We don’t have to depend on blurry spyshots to guesstimate what the new WagonR is going to look like. A new set of spy photos have surfaced on the internet that give us a glimpse of every angle we’d need.
To start things, it’s clear that you won’t mistake this car for anything else. The basic formula, that of a short nose, tall height, and large windows have been carried over into the new generation. There’s a subtle chrome strip on the boot too, which we’re sure bears the WagonR insignia, much like the current iteration.
But, that’s not to say Maruti Suzuki hasn’t tried to bring in an element of freshness to the WagonR. There are new elements here, such as the floating roof, as well as the large vertically stacked tail lamps. We do spot omissions too. For instance, even in what appears to be the top-spec model, we don’t see alloy wheels or daytime running lamps. Also, we think the front looks a bit weird, with the stretched headlamps. Let's hope our opinion changes when we see it in person.
There’s no sneak peek into the interiors just yet. But, we expect Maruti Suzuki to keep things simple and straightforward here too. So, we could be seeing an evolution of the existing WagonR’s upright dash, with all the bare essential features in place. Manual air-conditioning, four power windows, rear wash-wipe, and a defogger will be offered in the top-spec version. We’d like to see Maruti equip the WagonR with a touchscreen infotainment system. Especially considering all of its rivals i.e the Santro, Go and Tiago now feature the same.
On the engine front, Maruti is likely to bank upon its tried and tested 1.0-litre K-Series motor. This engine makes 68PS of power and 90Nm of torque. Both manual and AMT is expected to be on offer. And yes, the WagonR should get a CNG-powered variant as well.
Prices are expected to start at Rs 4.2 lakh for the base-spec version, and top out at around Rs 5.5 lakh for the top variant (ex-showroom). Maruti Suzuki will officially announce prices on January 23.
