This will be the eighth-gen Camry and will likely be launched with a petrol hybrid engine only, at least initially. The engine is likely to be the same 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine mated to a hybrid motor and an e-CVT gearbox as before. This powertrain drives the front wheels. According to Toyota, the powertrain has been re-tuned for better efficiency and driving dynamics

The 2019 iteration of Toyota’s flagship sedan in India is based on the new GA-K platform which also underpins the new Lexus ES 300 h. This will also make the Camry the first Toyota to be based on the TNGA platform in India. As for the dimensions, the new sedan is 29mm longer, 14mm wider and has a 49mm longer wheelbase compared to the old car. It does, however, sit 35mm lower than the outgoing model, which could be altered for the India-spec model.
It also looks rather striking and futuristic from the outside and the cabin will feature a new design layout as well. The centre console will feature a swooping design that separates the centre dash from the driver’s cockpit. Toyota’s ‘Human Machine Interface’ will feature an 8.0-inch infotainment system. However, it is not likely to feature Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. The instrument cluster gets a 7.0-inch MID and Toyota might even offer a 10-inch head-up display which offers all hybrid related information as well.
When launched, the Camry will lock horns with the Honda Accord Hybrid, Volkswagen Passat and the Skoda Superb. We expect it command a premium over the previous price tag of Rs 37.22 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
