Aprilia took the wraps off the RS 150 and Tuono 150 at the last edition of the Auto Expo and raised expectations for all enthusiasts. However, nothing really panned out since then apart from a couple of updates for its scooter division in India. Will the Italian brand turn things around at the 2020 Auto Expo? Here’s how things are likely to unravel:
BS6 SR 125 and SR 160:
Aprilia has already rolled out its BS6 models. While we would have expected a couple of cosmetic and feature updates, not much has changed with the SR 125. In fact, it’s the same as before aside from the addition of a BS6-compliant motor. On the flipside though, Aprilia’s flagship scooter gets extra displacement to play with and a new suffix - SR 160. More displacement equals more power. Essentially, the SR 160’s power output has been bumped to 11PS, 0.94PS more than the BS4 model. And while a price hike was inevitable, the revised prices seem a bit too steep, especially compared to other manufacturers.
Upcoming motorcycles:
The surprise element from Aprilia may come in the form of new 250-300cc bikes. Aprilia’s Managing Director Diego Graffi revealed these bikes are currently being worked on but may take some time to be launched in India. For now, we could expect the company to showcase at least pre-production models of the bikes which are most likely to bear the RS and Tuono moniker. Once launched, the duo will take on the likes of KTM, Suzuki, Yamaha, and Honda.
What about big bikes?
Expect Aprilia to launch its flagship 2020 RSV4 1100 Factory at the upcoming Auto Expo. While it remains the same as its predecessor, the bike features a new paint scheme to keep it looking fresh.
