Ford has introduced BS6 variants of the EcoSport sub-4 metre SUV in India. Changes include more standard equipment and a standard 3-year/1 lakh km warranty. The new variants are priced at a premium of Rs 13,000. The top-spec ‘S’ variant can now be had with a 1.5-litre diesel or 1.5-litre petrol engine. Rivals include the Renault Duster, Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, and the upcoming Tata Nexon.
The updated 1.5-litre TDCi diesel engine is rated at 100PS and 215Nm. Thus, it has 10Nm more torque but produces it between 1750rpm and 2500rpm. In its BS4 state of tune, this engine produces its peak torque from 1750rpm to 3750rpm. The only gearbox on offer is a 5-speed manual.
On the other hand, the Ti-VCT petrol engine now makes 122PS of power and 149Nm of torque. These figures are barely 1PS and 1Nm less than before. You can pair the engine with a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The new engines are slightly less fuel efficient than before. Petrol manual and automatic variants are claimed to return 15.9kmpl and 14.7 kmpl, respectively. The diesel’s fuel economy is claimed to be 21.7kmpl, down by 1.3kmpl.
Vinay Rana, Ford’s Executive Director of Sales and Marketing, said, “Ford is committed to offer products & technologies our customers want & value -- including our best-in-class diesel engines – at almost the same price.” Prices for all petrol variants are listed below:

Interestingly, prices of the mid-spec Titanium model remain unchanged, but it now gets front and rear armrests and a sunglass holder over the outgoing Titanium variant.
Ford will also offer a 3-year warranty as standard on all variants of the EcoSport. The carmaker claims that owners will need to pay Rs 1,400 in the first year to get their car serviced. The 1 lakh km or 10-year service cost is a low Rs 4,700. Service intervals are quoted at 10,000km.
“The 3-year standard warranty on 2020 EcoSport is a testament of our continuous localization efforts and commitment to deliver an even greater value to our customers,” Rana added. Ford’s new EcoSport presents an alternative for car buyers by providing a BS6 SUV ahead of the April 1, 2020 deadline. The new EcoSport continues to improve on its value-for-money quotient. We can’t wait to see what that bigger torque number has done to the diesel version.
