Harley-Davidson has announced all the updates for its 2020 model lineup. Harleys are generally known to be old-school motorcycles devoid of fancy rider aids but that’s set to change with the new updates. The bikes are now safer and, in a way, faster than ever thanks to the inclusion of a host of rider aids and connectivity options.
To begin with, all the 2020 Touring models (except Road King Standard and S, Electra Glide Standard), CVO lineup, Tri Glide Ultra and LiveWire get H-D Connect service, a subscription-based cellular connectivity that works by pairing up the bike with your smartphone via an app. This feature helps in monitoring the security of the motorcycle, viewing key vehicle health like battery voltage, fuel level and tyre pressure (applicable for bikes with TPMS equipped). It also shows riding statistics and service reminders. This subscription is free for the first year of the bike’s purchase and will then be chargeable.
Also, all 2020 Harley-Davidson CVO, Tri-Glide Ultra and Freewheeler range and LiveWire get standard Reflex Defensive Rider System (RDRS), which is Harley’s uber cool terminology for rider aid package. This includes electronically linked braking which distributes the braking pressure to either the front or rear brake whenever the other brake is applied. There’s also cornering ABS and cornering-enhanced traction control system (standard and rain) as well.

Under the RDRS package, Harley also offers a Drag-Torque Slip Control System (DSCS) which is essentially engine braking control, which helps in preventing wheel slips while aggressive deceleration. This is offered in the CVO models whereas the Trike range and the LiveWire get cornering-enhanced DSCS. There’s hill hold control and tyre pressure monitoring system available as a part of the package too. All these electronic aids are available as an option for all the 2020 Touring models in the US market.
As far as new bikes are concerned, the cult bikemaker has introduced the new Lowrider S, whose details can be found here. Apart from this, Harley has also unveiled the new Heritage Classic with aesthetic changes, and the Road Glide Limited, which replaces the Road Glide Ultra for 2020. The brand has also introduced a new Street Glide, Tri Glide and Limited under the CVO lineup. These bikes come with new colour schemes, wheels and infotainment system to name a few. Expect some of these updates to make their way to Harley’s lineup in India next year.
