The Honda CBR250RR was THE bike to beat in the quarter-litre segment until the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-25R came along. The Kwacker has extra cylinders and more displacement to play with giving it the edge over its Honda rival. But Honda doesn’t plan on calling it quits this easily. The 2020 CBR250RR has the perfect ingredients to take the fight to the four-cylinder ZX-250R. It’s been retuned to put out more power and gets better hardware as well.
The CBR250R's parallel-twin engine makes 3PS more, which means it now puts out a total of 41.7PS. What’s unclear is the updated bike's torque output, which on the current bike stands at 23.3Nm. Despite being a full-fledged supersport, the previous-gen CBR250RR never featured a slipper clutch. But that’s about to change with the latest iteration. Heck, it’ll even come with a bi-directional quickshifter as an option. Also, thanks to ride-by-wire throttle, the CBR250R comes with three modes: Comfort, Sport, and Sport+.
Not much has changed in terms of appearance. The only distinguishing factor is the new paint scheme for this year which has a mix of white paint, red frame, and gold wheels. Gold-finished upside down forks, petal discs, and dual-barrel exhaust are the icing on the cake.
The bike’s expected to be launched in the Indonesian markets in July this year. However, this could be postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Honda currently doesn’t have a quarter-liter faired bike in India that could take on the likes of the RC390. The 2020 CBR250RR could help fill this void and would be the perfect replacement for the current CBR250R.
