Honda Car India had to indefinitely postpone the unveiling and media drive of the 2020 City in India due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The India-spec sedan’s brochure has been leaked and we now have details of its features. India is the second market to get the 2020 City after Thailand. The sedan is expected to cost upwards of Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom) and will rival the Hyundai Verna, Toyota Yaris, and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.

Exterior highlights:
The 2020 City is larger than the outgoing model and has a longer overall length and added width over its predecessor. It has similarly sized 16-inch alloy wheels and an electric sunroof. Like its chief rival, the 2020 Hyundai Verna, the City is equipped with LED headlamps and taillamps.
Interior features and equipment:
The new interior will feature an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and a segment-first Alexa Remote. Like the Thai-spec model, the India-spec car has a 7-inch digital multimedia display for the driver’s instrumentation and analogue dials. It also has steering wheel switches for audio, telephony, as well as cruise control. Instead of touch buttons for the climate control, the 2020 City has old-school knobs to set temperature and airflow. The city will also have Honda Connect connected car features.
Safety tech:
the automobile community
In addition to government-mandated dual front airbags, the City is equipped with front-seat side and curtain airbags. Hill-start assist, electronic stability program and traction control will also be offered, likely on the top-spec car. A tire pressure warning system is also on board. For the first time, the City has three-point seatbelts for the middle passenger in the rear seat.
The Honda Lane Watch Camera is a new feature which will project a wider view of the car’s left side onto the infotainment touchscreen when the driver turns on the indicator before making a left turn. This feature is sure to be welcome in India where road users exhibit little regard for turning cars. However, it does take your eyes off the road when you should be using your neck to check your blind spot.
Engines and transmissions:
BS6 1.5-litre petrol engines from the current City and Amaze will be fitted to the 2020 City. Currently, the City is available with a 5-speed manual transmission as standard and an optional CVT gearbox. We expect the diesel City to have a 6-speed stick shift and a CVT automatic.
The 2020 City is likely to be launched soon after the lockdown ends. However. India’s mounting COVID-19 infections make the prospect seem several months away. For more updates on the 2020 City, keep an eye on this space.
