The specifications of the 2020 Honda City were recently revealed by an RTO document. Honda is expected to reveal the new-gen City this month. It utilises an updated version of Honda’s tried and tested 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine that develops 121PS of power, 2PS more than the current model. But how does it fare when pitched against its rivals: the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai Verna, VW Vento TSI and Skoda Rapid TSI that get BS6-compliant units. Let’s find out:

The 2020 Honda City i-VTEC develops the most amount of power in this test followed by the Verna’s turbo-petrol and naturally aspirated (NA) petrol motor and the Volkswagen-Skoda twins. Meanwhile, the City’s expected 145Nm torque output, similar to the Verna NA petrol, is overshadowed by the VW’s and Hyundai’s turbocharged petrol engines. The Maruti Suzuki Ciaz develops the least amount of power and torque here.
However, the Ciaz is the only one to come with mild hybrid technology which packs features like torque assist and auto start stop functionality. That said, the Verna Turbo and VW-Skoda twins could be more fun to drive thanks to their turbocharged engines.

Almost all cars in this test are available with a manual and automatic transmission option. However, the Verna turbo-petrol is offered with an advanced 7-speed DCT while the Ciaz is available with an old-school 4-speed AT.
