The hatchback is expected to gain minor cosmetic tweaks
  • It will likely retain the existing 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines.
  • The 1.2-litre petrol is good for 90PS/110Nm, whereas the diesel engine develops 100PS/200Nm.
  • Rivals include the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza, Hyundai Elite i20, and the Tata Altroz.

A couple of days ago Honda teased the BS6 Jazz in India through its official website. Since we won’t be getting the fourth-gen Jazz, Honda India will be launching the current Jazz in India with a BS6 powerplant and some minor cosmetic tweaks for differentiation. Already spotted testing on our roads, here’s what you can expect.

The spied test mule was heavily camouflaged, leaving no room for speculation. Initially, we believed the Jazz BS6 was unlikely to feature any cosmetic changes. But going by the new test mule and the fact that it was heavily camouflaged, we expect to see some minor cosmetic tweaks to the hatchback. The cabin design and layout is also likely to be similar to the current version.

Under the hood, it is likely to retain the same 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engine, upgraded to BS6. The output figures are also expected to be retained in the BS6 version. Currently, the 1.2-litre petrol puts out 90PS/110Nm, while the diesel engine develops 100PS/200Nm. These engines come mated to a 5-speed manual and CVT. The gearbox options are also highly likely to be carried forward.

Some features that are expected to be carried over are a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, cruise control, keyless entry with push-button start, and rear parking sensors. We expect more details to pour in over the coming weeks.

As of now, the Jazz retails from Rs 7.45 lakh to Rs 9.41 lakh (ex-showroom). The BS6 version will definitely attract a premium over this. Key rivals include the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza, Hyundai Elite i20, and the Tata Altroz.
