It is no surprise that Honda WR-V is struggling in the Indian automotive space, especially with the inception of new subcompact SUVs. Discontinued cross hatchbacks like the Volkswagen Polo Cross, Fiat Avventura and the Hyundai i20 Active suffered from more or less the same fate. But Honda is planning to make things better for the WR-V with a facelift that will also gain BS6-compliant petrol and diesel engines.
The BS6 powertrains in question will most likely be the existing 1.5-litre diesel and 1.2-litre petrol engines, albeit with BS6 updates. As of now the diesel produces 100PS and 250Nm while the petrol engine is good enough for 90PS and 110Nm. The petrol engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox while the diesel engine comes paired to a 6-speed manual. We expect these figures to be retained in the updated WR-V.
Cosmetically, the changes are subtle. There’s a new front grille, LED projector headlamps with DRLs, and redesigned tail lamps. Apart from these three, the WR-V looks more or less similar to the current version. A sneak peak inside reveals a familiar cabin with almost no changes.
Some features highlights in the WR-V are steering-mounted audio controls, cruise control, push-button start, 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, sunroof and rear AC vents. Safety features include dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors and rear parking camera.
The BS4 WR-V is priced from Rs 8.08 lakh to Rs 10.48 lakh. Its BS6 successor is expected to carry a premium over this pricing. Although Honda hasn't revealed the launch date, we expect it to happen in April after the debut of the 2020 Honda City.
