Hyundai is all set to launch the much-anticipated 2020 Creta on March 17. Although we got to see the SUV at the Auto Expo 2020, most of the details were still under wraps. According to a report, Hyundai will offer the new Creta in 14 variants and 10 colour options. Apart from this, we also know that the Creta will be powered by a choice of three BS6 engines: 1.5-litre petrol and diesel units as well as a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol motor.
These are the same engines that power the Kia Seltos. Going by that, the 1.5-litre petrol and diesel are expected to churn out 115PS, while the 1.4-litre T-GDI motor will be good enough for 140PS. The new Creta will also share its gearbox options with the Seltos. They include a 6-speed MT, 6-speed AT, CVT and a 7-speed DCT.
Going by the report, there will mainly be five variants on offer : E, EX, S, SX, and SX(O). Here’s a detailed split up of all the variants to make your life easier
E | EX | S | SX | SX(O) | |
1.5-petrol MT | Y | Y | Y | ||
1.5-petrol IVT | Y | Y | |||
1.5-Diesel MT | Y | Y | Y | Y | Y |

Starting from the bottom, it is understood that the 1.4-litre turbo petrol will be reserved for the range-topping variants like the SX and SX(O). The 1.5-litre diesel and petrol automatic will also be limited to the SX and SX(O). The 1.5-diesel MT combination will available with all the variants from base E to SX(O). Meanwhile, the SX variant gets the most number of engine and gearbox options.
The report also reveals eight single tone and two dual tone colour options. The single tone options include Mulberry Red, Galaxy Blue, Typhoon Silver, Phantom Black, Lava Orange, and Polar White. White with contrasting black roof and orange with a balck roof are the dual-tone options.
The 2020 Creta is underpinned by the same platform as the Seltos. The whole SUV is novel and nothing has been carried over from the current version. There will also be some features additions like a panoramic sunroof, BlueLink connected car technology, digital instrument display, cruise control, a wireless phone charger, powered driver’s seat, and ventilated front seats. We also got a glimpse of new Creta's cabin ahead of the launch.
When launched, the Creta will mainly rival the Kia Seltos while also posing a threat to the Tata Harrier and the MG Hector. We expect prices to start from Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom).
