The 2020 Hyundai i20 has been spotted testing in the country yet again. This will be the third generation update for Hyundai’s premium hatchback in India. It will come with BS6-compliant engines and first-in-class features. Just like the 2018 Elite i20 facelift, the 2020 Hyundai i20 is also expected to be unveiled at the Auto Expo 2020, with a launch by mid-2020. Let’s take a look at what the latest spy shots reveal:
The side profile of the new i20 is similar to the existing car. However, the glass area is quite different as Hyundai has decided to get rid of the rear quarter glass. The model pictures have been seen with a new set of dual-tone alloy wheels. Based on previous spy shots, the India-spec i20 comes with split LED tail lamps and the number plate is now housed in the rear bumper. At the front, the new i20 comes with a wide cascading grille that is flanked by halogen projector headlamps.
The interior of the India-spec 2020 i20 is still under wraps. However, a peek into the Euro-spec test mule revealed a digital driver’s display with crisp graphics and a big touchscreen infotainment system a la the Kia Seltos. Then there is a new steering wheel, which is chunkier and comes with sleeker spokes. Expected features include BlueLink connected car technology, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control, cruise control, a wireless phone charger and an auto-dimming IRVM. It’ll also come with a sunroof as seen in a test mule earlier.
Under the hood, the new Hyundai i20 will come with three BS6 compliant engine options: two petrols and one diesel. The petrol variant lineup will comprise the 83PS 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine and the Venue’s 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. The diesel variant is likely to utilise a detuned version of the Kia Seltos’ 1.5-litre CRDI engine as the era of the brilliant 1.4-litre CRDI will come to an end by April 2020 due to stricter BS6 emission norms.
The 2020 Hyundai i20 is slated to debut in India by mid-2020. It’ll most likely be priced more than the current car, which starts from Rs 5.53 lakh. When launched, the 2020 Hyundai i20 will renew its rivalry with the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Honda Jazz Toyota Glanza and the recently unveiled Tata Altroz.
