The production-spec 2020 Hyundai i20 has been leaked in images ahead of its 2020 Geneva Motor Show debut. We see that Hyundai has stuck to the lines right down to the alloy wheels revealed in earlier design sketch teasers, and we like that. Meanwhile, Hyundai India has already started testing the production-spec hatchback ahead of its launch in mid-2020. Here’s a closer look:
The 2020 i20 follows Hyundai’s Sensuous Sportiness design language and comes with familiar design elements like the single-piece cascading grille, sleek LED headlamps and triangle-shaped air dams. In profile, two sharp creases run on either side. Other highlights include a revised window area and new dual-tone alloy wheels. Moving on to the rear, the 2020 Hyundai i20 comes with connected LED tail lamps. There are plenty of blacked-out elements as well to break the visual mass.
Though Hyundai is yet to reveal the interior of the 2020 i20, earlier spy shots suggest it could come with a big floating touchscreen infotainment system and a digital driver’s instrument display.
We expect the new i20 to come with BlueLink connected car technology, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, cruise control, climate control, a sunroof, a wireless phone charger and keyless entry with push button start. Expected safety features include 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors and a rear view camera.
Hyundai is yet to reveal the technical specifications of the 2020 i20. The India-spec model will most probably come with the familiar 83PS 1.2-litre Kappa petrol engine and the Venue’s 125PS 1.0-litre Turbo-petrol engine. The diesel motor will likely be a detuned version of the Kia Seltos’ 1.5-litre engine as Hyundai won’t upgrade its 1.4-litre CRDI motor to meet BS6 norms.
The 2020 Hyundai i20 is expected to hit showrooms by mid-2020. Considering the expansive updates, we expect it to be priced more than the current model which starts from Rs 5.60 lakh (ex-showroom). The i20 will rekindle its rivalry with the Tata Altroz, Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Honda Jazz.
