The Hyundai Elite i20 is one of the top-selling models in its segment. Infact, Hyundai managed to sell an impressive 14,683 units of the hatchback in October 2019. The carmaker has now started work on its next iteration, which has already been spied testing in Europe. The upcoming hatchback will come with BS6-compliant powertrains including the Venue’s 1.0-litre T-GDI engine. Now, a spy shot has surfaced online revealing the 2020 i20’s premium interior for the first time. We could also make out some cool features.
The 2020 Hyundai i20 comes with a brand new dashboard that’s dominated by two screens. It features a digital driver’s display that has a sporty layout and top-notch graphics. Dominating the central console is a floating infotainment system that seems as big as the Seltos’ unit. A new sleek three-spoke steering wheel and redesign climate control knobs top the list of updates.
The upcoming model also packs a host of premium features such as lane-hold assist, BlueLink connected-car tech, cruise control, climate control, steering mounted audio controls as well as automatic headlamps and wipers. It is also likely to feature Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and keyless entry with push-button start.
The 2020 Hyundai i20 gets major styling updates at the front and rear. Its fascia is dominated by a single-piece honeycomb mesh grille that is flanked by projector headlamps. In profile, the premium hatchback looks a lot identical to the existing model due to its silhouette. However, the glass area is slightly different in the upcoming model. At the rear, the i20 gets new LED tail lamps and the number plate housing is now in the bumper.
The 2020 Hyundai i20 is likely to be available with three powertrain options: two petrol engines and one diesel unit. The petrol lineup will consist of the BS6-compliant 83PS 1.2-litre Kappa motor from the Grand i10 Nios and the Venue’s 125PS 1.0-litre T-GDI unit. The diesel engine option might be the detuned version of Seltos’ 1.5-litre CRDI unit as Hyundai won’t be upgrading the 1.4-litre unit to meet BS6 emission norms.
Hyundai could likely showcase the 2020 i20 at the upcoming Auto Expo. Expect the upcoming model to launch in India by mid-2020. Naturally, it will cost more than the current model, which starts from Rs 5.53 lakh. Primary rivals of the 2020 Hyundai i20 include the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza, Honda Jazz, and the upcoming Tata Altroz.
