We were quite disappointed that the facelifted 2020 Hyundai Verna didn’t make it to Auto Expo 2020. However, the upcoming sedan has been spotted testing in the country just days after we attended the expo. Here’s a closer look at the facelifted Hyundai Verna:
The India-spec facelifted Verna looks a lot similar to the recently unveiled Russia-spec Solaris sedan. It gets Hyundai’s latest iteration of the cascading grille with a honeycomb mesh finish and merges with the sleek swept back projector headlamps, which could possibly be LED units. Except for new alloy wheels, the facelifted Verna’s profile looks similar to the existing model. At the rear, the Russia-spec Solaris features LED tail lamps with revised design elements.
Inside, the facelifted Verna’s dashboard will most probably remain similar to the existing model. One could expect a bigger infotainment and a digital instrument display. We also expect it to feature Hyundai’s BlueLink connected car technology.
Features like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, climate control, cruise control, steering-mounted audio control, a wireless phone charger and ventilated seats will most probably be retained. It could come with safety features like 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, a rear view camera and electronic stability control.
Under the hood, the 2020 Verna will be offered with BS6-compliant 1.5-litre diesel and petrol engines from the Kia Seltos. The test mule seen here seems to be the 1.5-litre petrol variant with a 6-speed manual. We expect it to develop 115PS of power and 144Nm of torque. Just like the Seltos, expect the petrol model to be offered with a CVT. The diesel variant could develop 115PS of power and 250Nm of torque. It could be offered with a 6-speed manual and automatic options.
The 2020 Hyundai Verna is expected to hit showrooms by mid-2020. Considering the extent of updates, expect it to be priced more than the existing model which starts from Rs 8.18 lakh (ex-showroom). The facelifted Verna will lock horns with the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Honda City, Toyota Yaris and the upcoming Skoda Rapid TSI, Volkswagen Vento BS6.
