Hyundai Motor India has released teaser images of the 2020 Verna for. The carmaker also revealed the powertrains of the sedan, confirming that it will be available with a 1.0-litre turbocharged direct-injected petrol engine. Other variants will likely feature BS6 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines from the upcoming Creta. Three gearbox options will be offered -- an intelligent variable CVT, a 7-speed dual-clutch, and a 6-speed conventional automatic. We expect the facelifted sedan to be launched by mid-2020 and it’s likely to be priced at around Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom).
The 2020 Verna’s 6-speed automatic is likely to be the same 6-speed torque converter on the current Verna. In addition, a 6-speed manual transmission could also be offered. The BS6-compliant 1.0-litre T-GDI petrol is likely to produce a Venue-like 120PS of power and 172Nm of torque. It is likely to be paired with the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic like it is in the Venue.
Teaser images of the exterior show a Russia-spec Solaris-like design with more premium trim appointments. Since the 2020 Verna is a facelift, it retains the previous iteration's profile. At the front, redesigned headlamps sit flush against the silver grille which features a three-dimensional design like the one we’ve seen on the Hyundai Aura and the Grand i10 Nios Turbo. The foglamps seem to be placed within triangular faux headlamps similar to the China-spec Verna and Solaris.
At the rear, the LED taillamps feature a new design. A silver strip runs across the width of the rear bumper and surrounds the bumper-mounted reflectors. Apart from these changes, the Verna looks similar to the current model.
Spy shots tell us that Hyundai is likely to equip the upcoming Verna with a larger floating touchscreen infotainment system. The 2020 Verna could also get Blue Link connected car features and LED headlamps and foglamps. Features such as the sunroof, wireless phone charging, cruise control, and ventilated seats are likely to be retained from the current.
Once launched, the 2020 Verna will stir up old rivalries with the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Toyota Yaris, Volkswagen Vento, and Skoda Rapid. The all-new Honda City comes to India this month, too.
