Jaguar Land Rover’s Future Is A Driverless Electric Van. Wait, What?

The spiritual successor to the gorgeous Jaguar E-Type, the F-Type, is one of the prettiest automobiles around. Designed by the great Ian Callum, the two-seater sports car doesn't look outdated even after 6 years in existence. Anyhow, Jaguar has gone ahead and updated the kitty with a new face, in line with the current crop of modern Jaguars. Now, the big question is -- has it lost its beauty and charm with the new face? Let’s find out.
We are glad to report the F-Type is still worthy of a space on your wall. Jaguar has slapped on a new face, but hasn’t tinkered with the silhouette or the proportions. The vertical headlights have been replaced with a sleek set of horizontally positioned LED headlights similar to all the current Jags. The front grille and bumper have also seen tweaks while the British carmaker has reworked the rear tail lamps and diffuser design. The new face is fresh and gives it a sharp look while still maintaining the unique design traits we love about the F-Type. The fact that we are finding it hard to pick between the old and the new F-Type is clear evidence that the Jaguar has got the design right (that was a lie, we still prefer the old F-Type).
With the biggest change out of the way, let’s focus on the other bits. The two engines on offer are a 2.0-litre four cylinder engine and a 5.0-litre V8. The former (RWD only) develops 300PS and 400Nm of torque while the 5.0-litre supercharged V8 is available in two states of tune: 450PS (new) and 575PS. The 450PS/580Nm tune is available with the standard, R-Dynamic and First Edition variants of the F-Type in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive layouts. Meanwhile, the top-spec F-Type R gains the 575PS/700Nm tune with all-wheel-drive.
The F-Type R can sprint from 0-100kmph in just 3.5 seconds with the top speed limited to 299kmph. It also gets uprated chassis with new springs, dampers, anti-roll bars and rear knuckles as well as wider 20-inch wheels. With the 450PS tune, the F-Type takes 4.4 seconds to hit 100kmph from standstill, ultimately, reaching a top-speed of 284kmph. Both engines use a Quickshift 8-speed transmission, which has been calibrated for faster gear changes. With the update, Jaguar has sacked both the 3.0-litre V6 and the manual gearbox.
Other changes include a new 12.3-inch Interactive Driver Display, Meridian audio, and an updated infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Jaguar is also offering an exclusive First Edition for one model year with various cosmetic additions. Prices for the new F-Type start from £54,060 (Rs 50 lakh excluding taxes) in the UK, with bookings already underway. The F-Type in India is priced from Rs 90.93 lakh to Rs 2.80 crore (ex-showroom).
