2020 Mahindra Thar Might Get A Hard Hat Option

The automotive paparazzi on the 2020 Mahindra Thar seems never ending as a test mule has been spied yet again revealing more details. The upcoming off-roader is expected to debut at Auto Expo 2020 with an official launch shortly thereafter. Let’s see what the latest spy shots reveal, shall we? 

The 2020 Mahindra Thar is likely be offered with a removable hardtop, a feature found in the more expensive Jeep Wrangler. The removable roof means it’ll be easier to clean the interior of your Thar after a mud-bashing session. Further, you can convert the Thar into a cool looking convertible SUV for the wind-on-your-hair feeling.  

The 2020 Mahindra Thar also comes with a revamped interior with plenty of premium features. Highlights include a touchscreen infotainment system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay (expected), automatic climate control, steering mounted audio controls, a multi-info display, remote locking, central locking as well as front power windows. Expected safety features include dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, driver and co-driver seatbelt warning as well as a high-speed alert.  

Visually, the Thar looks familiar despite it growing a size bigger. It packs in traditional Mahindra design elements like a 7-slat grille, round headlamps, flared wheel arches and a boxy silhouette. Design updates include new 5-spoke alloy wheels (possibly one’s from the Scorpio) and new LED tail lamps.  

The 2020 Mahindra Thar will most likely be offered with a BS6 compliant 2.0-litre diesel engine. It’s expected to develop 140PS of power and 320Nm of torque. The off-roader will be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox and a low range transfer case to take on the rocks and ruts. Further, Mahindra could offer the 2020 Thar with a petrol engine and automatic gearbox.  

The 2020 Mahindra is expected to be revealed at Auto Expo 2020. When launched, expect it to be priced more than the Thar 700 Final Edition which was priced at Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The 2020 Mahindra Thar will renew its rivalry with the Force Gurkha, its only rival.
