Skoda fans, rejoice! Skoda Auto has taken the wraps off the 2020 Octavia at Prague, Czech Republic. Further good news is that it’s coming to India and is likely to be showcased at the Auto Expo 2020. The Octavia celebrates its 60th anniversary this year and this is the fourth generation of Skoda's bread and butter model. It will be available in both sedan and estate body styles. Just like every cyclical generation update, the Octavia is bigger, comes with revamped styling, a well-appointed interior and a lengthy feature list. It also comes with Euro 6d-compliant powertrains that are much cleaner than BS6. The Octavia hybrid, called the Octavia iV, borrows its powertrain from the Superb iV. The sportier RS and offroad-focussed Scout variant will join the lineup later.
Styling:
The Octavia comes with a heavily revamped design. The quad-LED headlamps of the existing model has been replaced by a single-piece unit while the trademark Skoda butterfly grille has grown larger in size. Just like its predecessor, the 2020 Octavia comes with a clean profile. Restyled alloy wheels are available in sizes ranging from 17 inches to 19 inches. Changes at the back include split LED tail lamps and a new tailgate. The Skoda logo has been traded in for the ‘SKODA’ nomenclature a la the facelifted Superb and the Kodiaq Scout.
Dimensions:
The 2020 Skoda Octavia is a tad bigger than its predecessor, sitting 19mm longer and 15mm wider. Despite having the same wheelbase, Skoda claims that the new car has a 600-litre boot and 78mm more rear knee room. Have a look at the detailed table below.

Interior:
The 2020 Skoda Octavia comes with a new dashboard that’s more premium and luxurious than before. There’s a sleeker two-spoke steering wheel while the digital dials behind it comes from its predecessor. Then there’s the new central console that houses the 10-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system that takes care of both multimedia and climate control . DSG variants now get a toggle switch that relies on sensors rather than the actual lever.
Features…
… onboard include connected-car tech with eSIM functionality, a head-up display, Smartlink+, Canton sound system, dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, multi-info display as well as a panoramic sunroof. Driver assistance systems like collision avoidance assist, exit warning (blind spot detection) and fatigue warning are also offered. Safety features include eight airbags, ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, rear view camera, electronic stability control, traction control and more.
Engine Options:
The 2020 Skoda Octavia comes with a plethora of engine options including a plug-in hybrid. The petrol lineup consists of the 1.0-TSI, 1.5-TSI and 2.0-TSI. The first two engines also come with a 48V mild-hybrid setup when you opt for the DSG variants. The 2.0-litre unit can be had with a 7-speed DSG and all-wheel drive.

Then there’s the plug-in hybrid powertrain borrowed from the Superb iV. It utilises a 1.4-litre TSI engine that comes mated to an electric motor. The hybrid powertrain can be had in two states of tune: 204PS and 245PS.The higher 245PS variant will come at a later date. Both the variants can be had with a 6-speed DSG only. A CNG variant that utilises a 130PS 1.5-litre TSI motor is also available. It can be had with a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG.
Skoda India is expected to offer the Octavia with the 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine and the 2.0-litre TDI EVO engine, both in their 150PS tunes. It is expected to come with a 6-speed manual and a DSG transmission option. Skoda has also told us that the RS variant will come at a later date. Hallelujah!
Internationally, the 2020 Octavia will be available in both estate and sedan body styles. For India, expect Skoda to continue offering it in sedan form only. It is expected to go on sale globally including India next year. Skoda Auto is likely to display the model at the Auto Expo 2020. Expect the upcoming model to command a premium over the current model, which is priced from Rs 16 lakh to 26 lakh (ex-showroom pan India). The 2020 Skoda Octavia will rival the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla Altis and the Hyundai Elantra.
