Skoda Auto is all set to reveal the fourth-generation Octavia RS iV at the 2020 Geneva Motor Show. The main highlight in the 2020 Octavia RS is the iV tag as it’ll come with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. With an estimated price tag of over Rs 35 lakh, we wouldn’t put it past ourselves to look forward to an RS variant of the smaller Rapid sedan, which is also in the works.
The Octavia RS iV’s hybrid powertrain develops 245PS of power, figures similar to the existing RS245. While the Czech carmaker is yet to reveal additional technical specifications, a leaked document suggests that the Octavia RS iV will utilise a 150PS 1.4-litre TSI engine paired to an electric motor. It’ll be offered with a 6-speed DSG only.
But if downsizing and electrification have disappointed you, fret not as the leaked document suggests the existing RS245’s 2.0-litre TSI powertrain will also be retained with a 6-speed manual and 7-speed DSG option. Diesel-heads can also rejoice as the 2020 Octavia RS will be offered with a 2.0-litre TDI motor developing 200PS of power, too. It’ll be offered with a 7-speed DSG only.
Skoda has also teased the design of the 2020 Octavia RS via multiple sketches. Updates include a blacked-out grille with an RS logo and a sportier bumper with aggressive air dams. It also comes with bigger alloy wheels and also sits lower than the standard model, giving it a sporty stance. Meanwhile, the rear end comes with dual exhaust tips and a red reflector strip on the sportier bumper.
Inside, one could expect plenty of RS badging, carbon fibre trims and plenty of red stitching. Skoda could also throw in sports seats and a flat-bottom steering wheel to denote the RS’ exclusivity.
The Octavia RS iV will be available in two body styles: notchback and estate. The Czech carmaker could launch the sedan version in India along with the 2020 Octavia this year-end. It’ll be brought to the country via the CBU route only. Expect it to be priced more than the Octavia RS245 (Rs 36 lakh, ex-showroom).
