The India-bound facelifted Toyota Fortuner has been crash tested by the ASEAN NCAP. Good news is that the SUV has scored a full five stars. The Fortuner got an overall score of 87.46 points out of 90.
The model evaluated in the test is the Thai-spec version. However, the Toyota Fortuner hasn’t been crash tested and the results are based on the equivalent Hilux as both models are underpinned by the same platform as well as powered by identical engines.
The Fortuner tallied a healthy overall score of 87.46 points and secured a full five stars. It scored 34.03 out of 36 in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), 43.38 out of 49 in Child Occupant Protection (COP), and 13 out of 15 in Safety Assist technologies (SAT). Speaking of SAT, the Thai-spec Fortuner comes with MG Gloster-like autonomous driving safety features such as autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, blind spot warning and forward collision warning. The India-spec Fortuner does not get these features, but we hope Toyota offers them this time around.
The frontal impact and side impact scores stood at 14.53 and 16.00. Here’s the overall weighted score for the Fortuner:
Score |
|
Adult Occupant Protection |
47.27 |
Child Occupant Protection |
22.13 |
Safety Assist Technologies |
18.06 |
TOTAL |

Toyota Fortuner India Launch Plans
the automobile community
Toyota will possibly launch the updated Fortuner in early-2021. The manufacturer has already started testing the updated SUV in the country. While the test mule was the standard model, Toyota could possibly launch the top-spec Legender variant as well. It’s also likely to come with the more powerful 204PS 2.8-litre diesel engine. Expect it to be pricier than the current-gen model which starts from Rs 28.66 lakh (ex-showroom).
