Volkswagen India has revealed the prices for the BS6-compliant Polo and Vento in the country. The BS6 Polo comes with the options of either a 1.0-litre MPI or 1.0-litre TSI motor while the upgraded Vento utilises the 1.0-litre TSI unit only. The 1.5-litre TDI, 1.6-litre MPI and 1.2-litre TSI units from earlier iterations have been axed from the lineup. This comes less than a month before the BS6 emission norms come into effect.

The Volkswagen Polo’s existing 1.0-litre MPI engine has been upgraded to meet BS6 emission norms. We expect figures (72PS and 96Nm) to remain unchanged on the upgraded model. The upgraded motor is also offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox unlike the BS4 model which comes with a 5-speed manual.
The Polo BS6 is also now offered with a new 1.0-litre TSI engine developing 110PS of power and 175Nm of torque. This powertrain can be had with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed torque converter automatic. While this powertrain replaces the existing 1.2-litre TSI motor and the lightning quick 7-speed DSG, enthusiasts can rejoice now as the Polo TSI is now finally offered with a manual gearbox.
The Polo’s 1.5-litre TDI which came in two states of tune -- 89PS, 110PS -- has been axed from the lineup. The Polo will soldier on as a petrol-only model in the BS6 era. Rivals for the Polo include the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Tata Altroz and Hyundai Elite i20.
