The Tuono V4 Goes Under The Knife For 2021

The litre-class streetfighter segment punching past the 200PS barrier isn’t news anymore. We already have the MV Agusta Brutale 1000 Serie Oro, Kawasaki Z-H2 and Ducati’s Streetfighter V4 who’ve managed to pull it off, and how. Supposedly, Aprilia wants in on the action and it’s brewing an evil Tuono to take up the challenge. This particular prototype was spotted testing at Imola with Lorenzo Savadori, Aprilia’s MotoGP test rider, on the saddle.
The bike looks sharper than before, with the front resembling Aprilia’s RS-GP 20 MotoGP bike with massive winglets on either side, thus improving aerodynamic efficiency. From the looks of it, there’s a substantial amount of carbon fibre being used to keep the weight low. The handlebars have been lowered and the windscreen has been redesigned to look sharper and smaller.
Truth be told, it almost looks like a stripped down RSV4-X. And if that’s true, we’re in for one hell of a ride.

For reference, the RSV4-X makes around 225PS through its V4 engine -- 8PS more than the RSV4 1100 Factory. It also tips the scales at 165kg, which explains the excessive use of carbon fibre on the 2021 Tuono. Now if the same engine’s being plonked into the Tuono, we could expect some mind boggling numbers. Perhaps over 215PS of power! That’s more than any of the current litre-class streetfighters out there. But this is pure speculation at the moment.

What makes us believe so is the fact that Lorenzo managed to clock a time of 1’50 flat (on slicks of course) -- just a few seconds shy of WorldSBK’s timings. Speaks volumes about what’s in store. Aprilias are known to be some of the best handling bikes out there. And when you pair a potent, earth shattering engine in there, it’s bound to be a winner. But only time will tell as there’s no official news from Aprilia at the moment.
Nonetheless, we can’t wait to see that the Italians have to offer.
