  • Facelifted A4 set to launch in early-2021.
  • Like its stablemates, it’s likely to come only with a petrol engine.
  • Features a revised grille, new bumpers, and LED headlamps.
  • Could be powered by the VW Group’s 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine.
  • Prices likely to start around the Rs 40 lakh mark.

Audi India is revamping its portfolio in the country and will soon be launching updated versions of its cars. The next new Audi to reach showrooms will be the facelifted A4, whose production has begun at Skoda Auto Volkswagen India’s Aurangabad facility. Yes, the A4 is being assembled in India so we can expect a decent price tag, unlike Audi’s other cars such as the Q2, Q8 and A8L, which are brought to India as completely built units.

The facelifted A4 was unveiled back in May 2019. Most of the updates are limited to the front and rear with the silhouette remaining unchanged. Audi’s single-frame grille, which is now a tad sharper, takes centre stage here, flanked by LED headlamps with funky DRLs. The new bumper looks more angular than before. In profile, a new set of alloy wheels will be the only change while the rear-end will come with a new bumper and LED tail lamps.

Inside, the facelifted A4’s dashboard layout remains unchanged, however, it will feature Audi’s latest MMI infotainment system. This system can only be controlled by touch inputs with the swivel wheel dropped for good. It could also come with connected car tech like the Euro-spec model.

On the feature front, we expect most of the equipment to be retained from the pre-facelift A4. So it could come with a digital instrument display, a Bang and Olufsen sound system, tri-zone climate control, ambient lighting, cruise control, powered front seats, and a sunroof. Safety should be covered by multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, electronic stability control, and a tyre pressure monitor.

Audi is yet to reveal the engine powering the new A4, but we expect it to come with the VW Group’s 190PS 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine as the older 1.4-litre TFSI petrol unit has been phased out globally. The 2.0-litre engine drives the front wheels and comes paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The new A4 will reach showrooms possibly by January 2021 itself. We expect it to be priced around the Rs 40 lakh mark (ex-showroom), putting it in the ballpark of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, BMW 3 Series, Jaguar XE, and the upcoming Volvo S60
