A couple of days ago, Bajaj announced a massive price cut of Rs 16,564 for the Dominar 250, making it more affordable than its launch price. In fact, a price of Rs 1,54,156 means the tourer now even takes on competition from the 150-350cc segment. While that’s a fantastic deal, some of you may still not be entirely convinced. So, here are a few options that you could look at around the same price:
1. MT-15 Ice Fluo Vermillion - Rs 1,45,900
First up is one of the best looking entry-level performance streetfighters in India, the Yamaha MT-15. It’s comfortable, quick, and comes packed with a number of features, ranging from a projector LED headlight and a loaded digital console to VVA (Variable Valve Actuation) and a deltabox frame. It handles well and has more than enough power for daily city commutes and weekend rides. It’ll soon be updated with dual-channel ABS, improving its safety aspect. All this for around Rs 8,000 less than the price of the quarter-litre Domi.
2. Yamaha YZF R15 V3 - Rs 1,54,600
If you’re a sucker for faired motorcycles, Yamaha also has the potent YZF R15 V3 on offer. It’s powered by the same heart as the MT, but features a few extra goodies for the premium. This includes split LED headlights, a cast aluminium swingarm, and different gearing for a better top speed. Throw it into corners and it delivers in spades. While it’s an excellent handler, it’s best enjoyed by experienced riders. Its razor-sharp handling could get a bit intimidating for newer riders.
3. Bullet 350 ES: Rs 1.55 Lakh
the automobile community
Around Rs 1.55 lakh (ex-showroom) could fetch you the iconic Bullet 350 ES. Its retro styling and the quintessential thumper of the engine is sure to get you the attention of die-hard Royal Enfield enthusiasts. Sure, the Classic 350 isn’t as powerful, sophisticated, feature-rich, or err… reliable as the Dominar 250, but it still has the thump -- if that’s what you’re looking for. Also, without all the fancy gizmos, it’s as pure as pure can get -- a classic retro motorcycle!
4. Bajaj Pulsar RS200 - Rs 1,62,445
Fork out about Rs 8,000 extra and you could look around in Bajaj’s own backyard. The RS200 is the perfect fit for those looking to get their hands on a bike that can handle daily commutes as well as enthusiastic weekend rides just as easily. It’s a tad short on power but weighs 14kg lighter than the Dominar 250, bringing it almost neck-and-neck with the cruiser. Despite being a six-year-old bike, it’s still a fun little machine and could be the perfect alternative to the Dominar 250.
