It was recently teased on Ducati India’s social media handles

After the launch of the SuperSport 950 a few weeks ago, Ducati is gearing up to launch the 2021 Monster in India as the bike was recently teased on social media. The teaser read ‘Just Fun’ and ‘Coming Soon’, hinting at an imminent launch.

In Ducati’s stable, the Monster sits below the bonkers 200PS Streetfighter V4 and it is one of the most famous Ducati bikes.

It recently went under the knife and got a host of updates. These include a new sleeker design, a more muscular fuel tank, and redefined ergonomics to suit sporty riding. Underneath the bodywork, the Monster ditches its trellis frame and slips into a monocoque chassis (derived from the Panigale V4). Ducati has shed the Monster’s chunky appeal and it looks quite like its Italian rival from Varese (the MV Agusta Brutale 800). The aim, though, was to make the Monster as light as possible and the Bologna engineers achieved just that as the 2021 edition is a massive 18kg lighter.

Under the skin, the new Monster now packs a 937cc Testastretta L-twin engine, the same unit as the Multistrada 950 S, SuperSport 950, and the India-bound Hypermotard 950. Thanks to the larger motor, the Monster now puts out 111.5PS and 93Nm, 2.8PS and 7Nm more than the Monster 821.

Also new for 2021 is the electronics package. It includes lean-sensitive traction control and ABS, three riding modes (Urban, Touring and Sport), Wheelie Control EVO, Launch Control EVO, and a bi-directional quickshifter. There are a bunch of other updates too, which you can check out in our detailed story.

The Monster will also come in a Plus variant which gets a front visor and a seat cowl, in addition to the standard kit.

We expect the Ducati Monster 950 to be launched around Rs 12 lakh, making it around Rs 1.5 lakh more affordable than the newly launched SuperSport 950. The Monster will go up against the Triumph Street Triple RS and the more affordable Kawasaki Z900.
