A closer-to-production version of the next-gen Mahindra Scorpio has been spotted testing in the country again. The latest set of spy shots reveal some interesting details. Expected to launch by the end of this year (and sold alongside the existing model), the upcoming SUV could be called ‘ScorpioN’ or ‘Scorpio Sting’ as per the trademarks.
First, the technical updates. The new Scorpio appears larger than the current model. Of course, a larger SUV will need better stopping power, and for that, the upcoming model will feature rear disc brakes -- a first for the Scorpio. It will also borrow the 2.2-litre diesel and 2.0-litre petrol engines from the Thar, possibly with more power. Read our first-drive review of the Thar to know what we think of the motors.
Along with the standard 6-speed manual, the Scorpio will be provided with an optional 6-speed torque converter automatic. The latest model could also revive the 4X4 powertrain, which was discontinued during the transition to BS6 norms in 2020.

Most design elements seem to be retained. If the spy shots are anything to go by, the new Scorpio will get dual-beam LED headlights and wider 245/65 R17 alloy wheels. The rear-end, featuring restyled LED tail lamps, seems similar as well.
However, the interior will be redesigned to wear a more plush look than before. Previous spy images had revealed a black-chocolate brown theme with generous silver highlights. Features will include a single-pane sunroof (a first for the Scorpio), push-button start, analogue dials with a multi-info display, and (possibly) a larger infotainment system with connected car tech.
The upcoming Scorpio is likely to be priced from Rs 13 lakh onwards, putting it in the same bracket with the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, MG Hector, and the Tata Safari.
