  • 2021 Mahindra XUV500 likely to be priced from Rs 14 lakh (ex-showroom).
  • It will come with a powered driver seat with memory function, digital dials, and possibly level-1 autonomous driving tech.
  • Expected to utilise a more powerful version of the Thar’s 2.0-litre petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines.
  • Both engines should be offered with manual and automatic transmissions.

For those of you eagerly waiting for the new Mahindra XUV500, we finally have its launch timeline. The upcoming SUV has been under testing for a while now, but Mahindra’s Auto Division CEO, Veejay Nakra, has confirmed to our sister channel, Powerdrift, that the new XUV500 will be launched between Q2 and Q3 2021. So, we can hope to see it around July.

This is the first generation update for Mahindra’s mid-size 7-seater SUV and based on spy shots, the changes are quite substantial. The current model’s outlandish design has been traded in for a cleaner and more modern look. That said, familiar XUV500 elements such as the slatted grille and the kink above the rear wheel arches have been retained. It also comes with Tesla-esque flush-fitting door handles.

It’s on the inside that the new Mahindra XUV500 takes things a notch up. The new twin digital screen setup, comprising the digital driver’s display and touchscreen infotainment system, is a touch too Mercedes! Other design elements such as the faux open-pore wood finish and the layout of the controls for the powered and memory driver seat (segment-first) also seem to be lifted from a three-pointed star. The lower variants come with analogue dials and a smaller infotainment unit.

It could get other creature comforts such as dual-zone climate control, ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, and possibly level-1 autonomous driving tech. Safety should be covered by up to seven airbags, ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, electronic stability control, and a tyre pressure monitor.

Under the hood, the new XUV500 is likely to utilise a more powerful version of the Thar’s 2.0-litre petrol (150PS) and 2.2-litre diesel (130PS) engines. Both units should be offered with 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions. Like the current model, the 2021 XUV500 will most likely be front-wheel drive, but the top-end variants could come with optional all-wheel drive.

The new XUV500 is likely to be priced from Rs 14 lakh (ex-showroom). It will lock horns with the Tata Safari/Harrier and MG Hector/Hector Plus.
