It gets a host of cosmetic updates that give it a more premium and upmarket feel

The MG Hector was launched in May 2019 and has been quite successful in India despite coming from an unknown brand. Now, MG Motor India is working on a mid-life update for the Hector, which has been spotted undisguised in the country. Here are five things you should know about the refreshed model:

Similar To The Hector Plus

The MG Hector gets minor styling updates that lend it an upmarket look. Most of these revisions are similar to the Hector Plus. The most noticeable change is the new five-split-spoke dual-tone alloy wheels that appear to be a size larger than before. The grille features chrome studs for a premium look while the red plastic trim has been replaced by a subtle gloss black trim.

A Premium Looking Cabin

The facelifted Hector’s dashboard design is still the same, but it now comes finished in a richer-looking black-creme scheme. Along with the panoramic sunroof, the lighter colour makes the cabin airier. But the lighter finish also means it could get soiled much easier than the current model’s all-black interior.

Same Features As Before

That’s no bad thing as the existing Hector comes with a lengthy equipment list. It packs a 10.4-inch infotainment system, connected car tech, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an Infinity sound system, ambient lighting, powered driver’s seat, climate control, and keyless entry with push-button start. Safety is covered by six airbags, ABS with EBD, parking sensors, and electronic stability control. So any major feature additions are unlikely.

Anything Different Under The Hood?

Unfortunately, nope. The Hector should continue to utilise the existing engines: a 170PS 2.0-litre diesel and a 143PS 1.5-litre petrol. Both engines can be had with a 6-speed manual, however, only the petrol engine can be specced with an automatic. The petrol manual unit also can be paired with a 48V hybrid system for torque boost.

Expected Prices And Launch

The facelifted MG Hector will debut in early-2021, probably by February. Considering the updates, it could naturally command a premium over the current model priced from Rs 12.83 lakh (ex-showroom). The facelifted Hector will renew its rivalry with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Tata Harrier, and the upcoming Mahindra XUV500
