  • Skoda Octavia likely to be priced from Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom).
  • It will get a 190PS 2.0-litre petrol engine with a 7-speed DSG.
  • Features include a large touchscreen infotainment system, digital driver’s display, and possibly connected car tech.
  • It will take on the likes of the Hyundai Elantra.

After plenty of launch timeline revisions, Skoda India has confirmed that it will launch the 2021 Octavia on June 10, 2021. The new Octy has already started reaching dealerships, with a select few accepting unofficial bookings as well.

The new Octavia looks sharper and sleeker than the model it replaces. Conventional single-piece LED headlamps flank Skoda’s butterfly grille that sits lower and wider than before. Barring the turbine-like alloy wheels, the side profile looks similar to its predecessor. But that’s the only bit that looks similar to the previous model, as the rear three quarters looks like a mini Superb thanks to the new split-LED tail lamps.

On the inside, the large infotainment system eliminates the cluster of buttons and gives the cabin a minimalistic look. Almost all functions of the new Octy can be accessed through the touchscreen. Also, the digital driver’s display seems to offer crisp and sharp graphics.

The top-spec Laurin and Klement trim comes packed with features including Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting, cruise control, powered front seats, and Drive-by-wire gear shifts.

Safety is taken care of by multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, a rear view camera, electronic stability control, and an electric parking brake with auto hold function.

Unlike its predecessor that came with petrol and diesel engines, the new model will come with a sole 190PS 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that drives the front wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. A 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine could be offered at a later stage to make the Octy more accessible.

The Octy is likely to be priced from Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom), putting it in contention with its only rival, the Hyundai Elantra. You can also consider it as an alternative against the Jeep Compass.
