It rivals the MG Hector Plus and the upcoming Mahindra XUV700.
Tata’s latest flagship SUV, the 2021 Safari, is continuing its strong momentum with the 10,000th unit being rolled out from its manufacturing plant in Pune within just five months since its launch on February 22. The three-row SUV is priced between Rs 14.99 lakh and Rs 21.81 lakh (ex-showroom).
What’s impressive about this feat is that the Safari managed to achieve this despite the restrictions in the country that were imposed after the 100th unit was produced in February 2021. Tata also claims the Safari is the top-selling 6/7-seater SUV in the country with a current market share of 25.2 percent in its segment. Also, alongside the 5-seater Harrier SUV it is based on, the carmaker claims to currently hold a 41.2 percent market share in this segment (as of Q1 FY22).
Tata offers the Safari in six variants: XE, XM, XT, XT+, XZ, and XZ+, with the option of 6- and 7-seater layouts. It can also be specced in a Adventure Persona edition that comes finished in a Tropical Mist blue and blacked-out inserts. You can read more about it here.
Feature highlights include an 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, i-RA connected car tech, electronic parking brake with auto hold, rear disc brakes, ambient lighting, a 7-inch semi-digital driver’s display, a panoramic sunroof, and powered driver’s seat. Safety kit consists of six airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors with camera, and electronic stability control.
Under the hood is a 2-litre diesel engine delivering 170PS and 350Nm, paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. While power is only distributed to the front wheels for now, the carmaker could introduce AWD later, depending on the demand.
We’ve also had our first taste of the Safari which you can read more about here. It rivals the MG Hector Plus, and the upcoming Mahindra XUV700.
